A Mac menu bar app that warms and dims your screen on a schedule you set

About this project

Sundown sits in the Mac menu bar and changes the colour of the display as the day goes on. You set the times, and it moves the screen from ordinary 6500 K white toward amber and deep red, as low as 500 K in 100 K steps, dimming it along the way. It needs macOS 14 or later and is made by Jack Richards.

For anyone who wants the reasoning, https://trysundown.com/science walks through the research on evening light, and https://trysundown.com/research/screen-flicker-and-eye-strain covers 29 PubMed-cited studies on flicker and eye strain, with an evidence table that says plainly where the evidence is thin.

Feedback welcome, especially on whether setting up a schedule makes sense the first time you open it.

Jack, Sundown
