LearnDash certificates never expire on their own. Once a student finishes a course, the certificate stays valid forever, which is a problem for training that has to be renewed: first aid, food hygiene, safety inductions, CPD.
LearnDash Certificate Expiry is a WordPress add-on from PluginSprout that closes that gap:
- You set a validity period on the certificate, and each student's certificate expires that long after the day they completed the course.
- Reminder emails go out 180, 90 and 60 days before expiry, then an expired notice, each with a renewal link. Every subject and body can be edited.
- Re-certification can be paid: gate the certificate behind a WooCommerce product and it is released when the order reaches the status you choose.
- Every certificate gets a public verification page with a QR code, so an employer can check whether it is still active.
- Admins can grant, extend or revoke one student's certification by hand.
It works through LearnDash's own hooks and leaves LearnDash's core files alone. It needs LearnDash 4.x. A licence is $79 a year for one site and includes every feature, a year of updates and email support.
